Like any theory, ours is backed by science. The idea of Orangetheory is simple: a 60-minute workout designed to push you into the Orange Zone. This creates "Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption," or EPOC. It's what burns calories after your workout and gives you noticeable, lasting results with Orangetheory Fitness.

Orangetheory Fitness uses the science of Heart-Rate Based Treadmill Interval Training, the efficiency of Indoor Rowing for increased power and the proven concept of Weight Training Blocks to create the fitness level and body you have always desired. ORANGETHEORY FITNESS PHILOSOPHY

THE SCIENCE OF THE ORANGETHEORY WORKOUT

The physiological theory behind the Orangetheory workout is known as “Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption,” or EPOC. By providing you with a heart-rate monitor and POD, we can monitor your 5-zone interval training sessions that we call the Orange 60. During the 60-minute workout, you will perform multiple intervals designed to produce 12 to 20 minutes of training at 84% or higher of your maximum heart rate, which translates to Zones 4/5. This program design produces workout "afterburn" effect, which is an increased metabolic rate for 24 to 36 hours after the workout. When combing the amazing workout with EPOC, our clients burn an average of 500 to 1200 calories.

The Orangetheory workout will produce increased muscle Endurance, Strength and Power and if desired, tremendous weight loss. With energetic music, a talented group of fitness coaches and a high-energy studio, you have the recipe for a workout that produces BIG and LASTING results.


The Orangetheory Fitness training session is comprised of three components: treadmill interval training blocks, indoor rowing and weight room or resistance training blocks. These Orange 60 sessions are open to all adults and teens, ages 16 and older. All fitness levels are welcome as our program is specifically designed for everyone from power walkers to elite performance athletes.

As you plan to participate in your first Orange 60 workout, please arrive 30 minutes prior to the start time so we can educate and prepare you for the most efficient, science-based workout you will ever experience. Call your nearest studio to book your first complimentary workout.

If weight loss is your goal, you can expect to see an estimated loss of three to five pounds per week by attending three to five sessions per week and with proper nutritional planning. If performance is your goal, you can expect to see an increase in power, speed and strength after your first two weeks of attending two to four sessions per week.

MEET ELLEN LATHAM - CREATOR OF THE ORANGETHEORY PROGRAM

Ellen is a highly trained physiologist with a lifelong passion for health and fitness. Her desire to be on the cutting edge of fitness inspired Ellen to design “The Ultimate Workout,” which became the foundation for Orangetheory Fitness – hailed by the New York Times as an effective new plateau-busting workout. Ellen is a Partner and Founder of Orangetheory Fitness, and Owner of Ellen’s Ultimate Workout gym in Florida.

Inspired by her father Arthur Calandrelli, a very popular Physical Education teacher and coach in Niagara Falls, NY, Ellen has been motivating and training clients for over 35 years. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education and a Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology from the University of Buffalo in New York.

Before perfecting her signature workout, Ellen worked at the prestigious Bonaventure Spa when it was the main fitness retreat for the stars, as well as managed Williams Island Spa and The Eden Roc Spa on South Beach. She served as a TV fitness expert for six years, authored fitness columns for The Miami Herald and South Florida Sun-Sentinel and earned the title of Business Woman of the Year in South Florida. Through her position as fitness editor for Women’s Fitness magazine, Ellen began focusing on Pilates and opened the first group equipment-based Pilates studio in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
